What to expect

Balanced is a useful default for ordinary photos; sharper keeps more detail and usually makes a larger file.

Re-encoding normally removes embedded metadata, including camera details and location tags.

Quality and file behaviour

  • Sharper settings retain more detail; smaller settings intentionally discard more image information.
  • Choose WebP to retain transparency; JPEG replaces transparent areas with white.
  • Every output is re-encoded, so this operation is not lossless.

Common problems

  • Animated images are intentionally rejected because this tool would keep only one frame.

Why might a PNG become larger after compression?

Flat graphics and transparency behave differently from photographs. Try WebP or keep PNG when transparency is important.

Can the tool guarantee an exact target size?

No. Image content affects compression. The quality setting is applied honestly and the actual result is shown afterward.
